“Embracing the past, celebrating the future”

Manchester Parish turns 200 years old in 2014 – and carries a great deal of enriching history! The Mile Gully Heritage Loop Tour is an authentic heritage tour embracing the legacy of slavery and celebrating the triumph of freedom. Visit Maidstone, one of Jamaica’s first free villages, hear tales from the past as you walk through a (rumoured to be haunted!) 18th century church and view artifacts at a slave hospital. Cool off in the beautiful Oxford River – once an escape route for slaves who fled to the nearby caves. The tour finishes off at Adam’s Valley Farms, a coffee and pimento plantation turned innovative farm. Cultivating delicious produce (such as sweet potatoes, peppers and tomatoes) the farm makes use of sustainable agricultural techniques powered by wind and solar energy, rain water harvesting and soil sterilization. Pick your own vegetables, catch a fish or two, and have them prepared just for you!
